Dangerous to be together. Painful to be apart. Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she's becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake. Tristan can't believe Sav won't even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don't expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for. A reckoning is coming and not everyone will survive. - Goodreads.com
I was worried about this sequel because I loved the first book so much, I was just so wary that the second would end up letting me down somehow. It did NOT. This was such a phenomenal sequel to what is turning into a great series by Melissa Darnell.
Everything I loved about the first is just as fabulous in the second. The characters, Savannah and Tristan are both still wonderful... the tension between them both still just as heavy, and the story just as intriguing as it was in the first. Savannah is growing and changing, learning some new tricks, and evolving into not just her father's legacy but her mother's as well. She has such strength in this story, which really goes to show how much she has grown since the beginning of the first book when she was somewhat beaten down by the way others have always treated her. And Tristan... ahh, Tristan. Just as sweet, honorable and sexy as ever. Gotta love this guy. He's just perfect.
This book had a sort of New Moon syndrome going on though, which might disappoint some readers if they don't hang in there... but the wait is worth it. Yes, Tristan and Savannah have to stay away from each and do for most of the book. But that doesn't mean that the author doesn't sneak in some good scenes here and there to keep the reader salivating over this relationship.
As far as the story goes... the author really increases the conflict and tension in the story tenfold. So much happens, and there are a couple of really huge surprises in here that a) I didn't see coming; and b) that are going to make book three incredibly interesting.
Again, I was left with the mother of all cliffhangers, and now I'm dying to read book three just as much as I was dying to read book two after finishing the first. Great story, great characters, great writing, and a great tease for book three. Melissa Darnell has definitely given us a fantastic lead-in of what's to come. Awesome.
